Paper Plane was invited to attend the Google Launchpad Accelerator as executive mentors specialising in venturing and corporate venturing.The programme hosts 31 startups from emerging markets, selected from thousands of applicants, that gain access to Google facilities, specialist mentors and workshops for two weeks in San Francisco and for six months back in their home countries.

Paper Plane’s founder and managing director, Stuart van der Veen was a participant at the Singularity University Executive Programme, a week-long immersive course in Silicon Valley that examines how key converging technologies will shape the future, and explores ethical leadership in a world of rapid change. The intensive program is intended for senior leaders in business, government, and nonprofit sectors with the desire to have a positive impact at scale, and who want to create their organization’s future—and the world’s future—not simply react to it.

Paper Plane attended the Spring Finovate in San Jose with Nedbank Asset Management, Silica and Deloitte Consulting representatives. Finovate conferences showcase cutting-edge banking and financial technology in a unique, short-form, demo-only format. Finovate officially started in 2007, with the aim of making the most memorable event in financial services technology. Finovate expanded to San Francisco in 2008, London in 2010, and Asia in 2012. They also extended their reach to the fintech developer community in 2014. The FinDEVr conference series includes both East and West Coast events in New York and Silicon Valley and is adding an international event in London in 2017.

Their 30 events have attracted more than 16,000 attendees, who’ve watched more than 1,600 demos & presentations from more than 700 companies. This event teems with global venture capital firms, banks and consultants resulting in significant capital allocations and corporate venturing. Notable launches were Vinny Lingham’s Civic Technologies and IBM Watson’s Wealth Management.
